Focus your energy inwards. When you expect, hope, and want things from other people, you expel your energy and push people away. When you focus inwards, you draw people in and feel infinitely better.
I’m not 100% sure if I believe in all this talk on energy, manifestation, and the like. But I’m increibly intrigued by it and do try the practices here and there.
With this idea, I would say without a doubt it’s better to focus your thoughts inward then on other people. Expecting things from others is a surefire way to be hurt. Hoping people will act a certain way will leave you pissed off and pessimistic. Wanting someone to do something – text you, call you, like you… – puts so much stock into something you have no control over.
As the Stoics state, you only have control over your own mind. No of us has any say in what another person does and trying to exert our influence on their decision does nothing but harm us if it goes against our desire. Some would say when we develope this desire, the energy we produce pushes the other person away. Maybe you believe that, maybe you don’t.
Either way, it can be said, we need to focus on ourselves and what we can control. Bring your thoughts inward. Breathe and focus. No more expectations – be good without receiving anything in return. No more hoping – be grateful for everything the Universe places in front of you. No more wanting – You have so much and adding more won’t change your ability to be grateful.
Focus on yourself and never look for anything from anyone else. Be a good person, keep growing, and keep learning.
