A Genuine Compliment

A genuine compliment could be exactly what someone needed to hear. Never be afraid to compliment a stranger, just so long as it’s honest.

I’ve been in that stage of working out consistently where I wish I could see results sooner. After 10 days of 75 Hard, I thought maybe I’d see some pretty substantial differences in my physique. This is in part because of how much effort the challenge takes and I’m looking for signs that it’s worth continuing. I was questioning why I keep doing it and thinking I look exactly the same until I received a compliment.

At the gym, a huge dude came up to me after I finished a set and said I had some of the best form he’s ever seen and it shows through my physique. It was so genuine and exactly what I needed to hear, I didn’t know what to say except thank him.

I have been putting a lot of focus into my technique at the gym, often lowering my weights to really target each muscle’s flexion and stretch. You can never be sure if you’re doing things adequately or effectively unless someone wiser than you says something. So when he approached me and said that, it truly helped ease my mind.

This goes to show how far a simple compliment can go. You can drastically change a person’s day by saying something thoughtful. Don’t lie or make something up, most people will be able to tell. Be real and honest and tell someone something nice. Try to be less generic too. More deeply thought out compliments will make a person feel incredible.

Compliment a person’s confidence, their cheerful aura, the way their eyes light up when they smile… there are so many intricate details to notice about a person and you shouldn’t be afraid to say something. Have no expectations or intentions outside of being kind.

Pay attention to other people and compliment them when you notice something about them.
