The Change Up

To stay curious and intereste in our lives, we need to change it up and do so regularly. Going against what you’re used to is one of the best ways to keep life fun and exciting.

I’ve officially started my steady bulk, which I plan to do for the next 6 to 12 months. The goal is to put on a decent amount of mass (I’m thinking 10 to 20 pounds). The past few days has consisted of a lot of planning and calculating daily calories. As I input potential meals for each day, I feel overwhelmed by how much I’ll be eating, but at the same time, I’m excited.

I love doing this shit. People think I’m crazy but I gnuinely enjoy testing my own limits and seeing what I’m capable of. That’s why my routine is so rarely the same. The challenge of completely altering my diet and tracking it all as a way to build more muscle is a lot of fun. While it seems daunting, I know that if I do it right, I’ll see the results I desire.

The book I’m reading, Deep Work by Cal Newport, brings up the idea that having too much free time is detrimental to our happiness and productivity. We need to stay busy and feel like we’re working towards something. For me, doing things like these fitness challenges is exactly what I need to stay interested in my daily life and feel productive. This removes a lot of time spent wondering what to eat and what to do at the gym. I figure out what’s necessary then stick with it, so inactivity isn’t even an option.

You don’t have to do crazy challenges like I do, but you should consider doing more to stay active and productive. Your days shouldn’t consist of getting ready for work, working, then relaxing to prepare for tomorrow’s work. You can’t expect to feel motivated and excited if that’s all you do. Change it up and do something with your free time. Set some goals for yourself, figure out how to work towards them, and act.

Add some more excitment to your life and see what you’re capable of.
