ETT with Matt Folkerts – Finding Purpose and Meaning with all the -isms (Minimalism, Optimism, Buddhism, Nihilism, etc.)

November 11, 2020

I recently watched a documentary on Netflix called Minimalism by Matt D’Avella in which a quote by AJ Leon really struck a cord with me.  To paraphrase AJ said he was offered the promotion he had always dreamed of but he feared that if he took the offer, he’d never escape and be able to live the life he truly wanted. From there I went down a rabbit hole of thought which I go into more detail in my blog post at https://expeditiontotry.com/ and that’s what we discuss in this episode. We discuss how interesting it is that all of us humans are put on this Earth and feel this need to find meaning and purpose in life, but we all choose to do so in such vastly different ways. Some people turn towards religion, others towards philosophy, some to their own personal way, and any of the thousands of others out there. I personally think that is fascinating how one person can find their happiness in viewing the world one way while another person could do the same with a completely different method. So Matt and I discuss our own views of life and how we cope with the world as well as our thoughts on how other people form their own views.
