Self improvement is not an all-or-nothing process. Improving yourself is an effort based, long term mindset, and slow growth game.
There are a lot of numbers thrown around when it comes to health and self improvement – meditate at least 20 minutes a day, eat 2000 calories, walk 10,000 steps, drink a gallon of water, read 10 pages, spend 2 hours on a side hustle, etc.
Hearing these numbers can give the impression that if you’re not doing these things and more, you’re not improving. That is not the case.
There is one goal of self improvement – to improve. This means something different for you than it does for me and for everyone else. Improvement means reading more, painting more, losing weight, getting stronger, calming the mind, learning something new, starting a business, and on and on and on…
How you choose to improve, how much time and energy you can muster, and the speed at which you develop is up to you. There are no benchmarks, no numbers set in stone, nor minimum requirements to be considered “healthy” or “improved”.
If you cannot manage 20 minutes of meditation, but can definitely do 10, hell yeah. If you start by reading 2 pages a day and work your way up, right on. Have 15 minutes to write a blog today, an hour tomorrow, no time the next day? Use any amount of time you want and can.
This is not an all or nothing game. There are no tests, no prerequisites, and no minimums. Improvement means working on bettering yourself in any way you desire. It can be at any rate you can manage, just so long as you’re doing it.
