If you have the capacity to do something now, do it now. There’s no guarantee future circumstances will be the same or better than right now, so get it over with.
I was absolutely dreading my walk this morning. I was tired when I woke up, felt slightly sick, and then discovered it was raining. I got ready, drove to work, and braved the rain for 45 minutes. It sucked, it really did, but I got it over with.
As I was walking and wishing I wasn’t, I thought about how I could’ve just waited till after work when the weather would probably be nicer, but I realized that wasn’t a guarantee. There was no way for me to know how energized I’d feel after work and the gym, what the weather would be like, or what my mental state would be. I could hope for the best, but there was no way to know for sure.
This is how it goes in life – we push things off, hoping in the future the circumstances will be more ideal. We continue postponing until it never gets done because there’s never a right time. If there’s something you know you should do, and you have all the energy, time, and resources you need to do it right now, do it right now. If the only thing stopping you is an excuse, do it right now.
The future is completely unknown and uncontrollable. You can never assume later will be better than now, so it’s better to get it over with than hope and postpone. Push past the ego and all its excuses and do what needs to be done. You’ll feel a lot better getting it over with early.
