How many times have you said something like, “I want to eat better”, “I want to read more”, or “I want to be in better shape”? My guess is, probably a lot. We all feel like there are things we could be doing better, but how do we actually do them?
It’s honestly quite simple to be better. In order to be better you have to do two things: stop overthinking/overcomplicating and do more than you are now.
To be better, you don’t have to become a completely different person. The desire to “read more” doesn’t mean finishing 100 books a year. Your goal of “eating better” doesn’t require a fridge and pantry stocked with fruits, veggies, and no snacks. Wanting to work out more doesn’t require 3 hour gym sessions every day.
To be better, to improve yourself, you only have to do more than you’re doing now. If you’re starting at zero, you’re in the best and easiest position.
Don’t think of improvement as a momentous task. You do not need to uproot your life, ditch your friends, throw away your TV, burn your junk food, or do anything drastic. You only have to do more and be better than you are.
Read two more pages than you currently read. Eat one more healthy snack or meal than you currently eat. Commit to one additional physical activity and stick to it. Watch one fewer episode of TV.
Just be better. Just do more.
You do not have to make this difficult or stressful. Being better doesn’t require burning yourself out or dropping all your current habits at once. If you want to be better, if you want to do more, be better and do more. It’s as simple as that.
