My new work schedule has left me scrambling to fit all my hobbies and projects in whenever I can. It hasn’t been as easy to do everything I want compared to when I wasn’t working.
One thing that has taken a hit is my art. With my new work schedule, it often feels like I don’t have enough time to fit painting sessions in. My day usually consists of work, then exercise, then ETT stuff, then maybe some reading or TV before bed.
This morning I was thinking about some commissions I have that I haven’t touched and I thought “I just don’t have enough time!” But instead of accepting that statement. I altered my thoughts and held myself accountable.
Instead, I thought “I’m not making enough time!” From there, I asked myself how I could make the effort to fit painting in every week. My brain started flowing with ideas.
I could schedule myself to paint every Wednesday, I could take just one hour a day to sit and work on something, I could paint each day I have off work…
When you flip the script and hold yourself accountable, you have the ability to fix the issue you’re facing. Instead of blaming the world and external events or people, ask yourself “What can I do?”
If something is important enough to you, you’ll find the time to do it. You gotta get out of the habit of making excuses because excuses don’t solve anything. If you really want to find the time, ask yourself what you can do differently and how you can fit the activity in to some extent.
Remember, it doesn’t have to be hours and hours of work, it can be as little as a few minutes a day. It doesn’t have to happen every day, but it has to happen. If it’s something you care about, something that makes you happy, find the time to do it.
