Making Time for What Matters

How can you ensure you spend enough time doing all the things you love and want to do?

There are a lot of external events and activities that occupy our time and make it difficult to fit in the things we want to be doing.

In my eyes, step one is to actually figure out the list of things you love and want to fill your life with. Write down everything you’d like to be able to do every day or week. Some of mine are painting, reading, working on ETT, and seeing friends and family.

Next you have to find out how you’re currently spending your time. Record every moment of your day on paper. List every activity you did each day for at least 3 days. Once you do that, you’ll easily be able to see where you’re wasting a lot of time.

That 2 hours on your phone, that 3 hours watching TV, that hour there, that 30 minutes here, etc.

You’ll find where you waste the most time. From there, you can work your way out of doing those time wasters and instead focus on your hobby, side hustle, family time, or whatever else you want in your life.

The last step is to keep optimizing it. Keep trying to make time for the things you want. Test one theory, see how it goes, then fix it or add to it.

When you start filling your time with the things you enjoy, you’ll start feeling more productive, busy in a good way, and in my own experience – happier. It makes sense doesn’t it? Why wouldn’t you be in a better mood if you were doing everything that makes you happy every day?

Figure out what you love doing. Do those things.
