Other People’s Decisions Don’t Affect You

We all act with the intention of doing what’s best for us. We make decisions that we feel are right and most beneficial in the moment. It may be unconscious, it may not be.

The decision someone else makes doesn’t have any impact on how you move forward. People are going to make choices that you never would. They’ll say things you’d never say and act in ways that seem foreign and unproductive to you.

The key being that it’s foreign to you. To them, it’s normal and probably what they’ve always done.

When someone makes a choice that’s different than you would have made in the situation, don’t scorn them. Don’t let their decision eat away at you asking yourself “Why would they do that??” It doesn’t matter what they did. It doesn’t matter why they did it.

You cannot control the choices of anyone other than yourself.

When someone acts counter to how you would’ve, remind yourself they acted in a way they felt was best for them in that situation. Control what you can control – how you act and how you respond to their choices.
