People Want To Be Heard

People want to be heard. What may come off as rude can simply be a person trying to share their ideas and you being too opinionated to listen.

Once again, I posted an audio blog on my tik tok and it received some slack. The blog was “We Should’ve Learned This In School” and some viewers grew heated over the topic.

There were a lot of people saying school is pointless, it doesn’t teach anything important, needs reformation, and that I was being condescending.

My intention was to encourage people to stop blaming school for their gaps in knowledge and instead put effort into their own learning. Some listeners didn’t take it that way. While at first I was a little mad, I tried having a discussion with the people and I learned an important lesson.

People want to be heard, they just may not always be the best at voicing their thoughts. It’s important to give everyone a chance to share their side and their perspective. You may have to work around the initial rudeness to reach the underlying point, but it’s good to try.

In my scenario, these people felt the school system failed them. They believed change needs to happen and schools need to do more to prepare kids for the real world. Simply teaching yourself life-skills is beneficial but it doesn’t fix the underlying issue.

I never felt like school failed me. While I believe they could’ve taught us more beneficial topics, I did learn a lot of important life skills. Had I not taken the time to have these conversations in my comment section, I wouldn’t have heard the other perspective.

Take the time to hear a person out. We all just want to feel like our voice holds weight and we have an impact on the world. Share your ideas and hear those of others even if you have to work around some initial backlash or criticisms.
