The Strength Of A Self-Improvement Lover

You can’t tear down someone who loves improving themselves – they’ll only grow stronger.

There is an immense benefit to self-improvement and going out of your way to become the best version of yourself. I’m not talking about the obvious health benefits that come with wanting to improve yourself, I’m talking about the mental strength you gain.

When you love improving yourself and someone makes an initially rude comment about you such as “You never listen to me!”, “You always shut me out when you’re upset’, or “You work too much!” – you’re able to turn it into a learning experience.

Most people hear these things and grow pissed off or petty. They’ll become defensive and feel the need to argue. When your goal is to be better, you hear these comments and you make the choice to do something about it. You focus your attention on the trait in question, consider the other person’s perspective, think of instances where you show this negative trait, and work on catching it happening in the future.

You allow yourself to have flaws but you never let them run rampant once you’re made aware of them. When someone mentions a bad habit, you don’t get mad at the person, you figure out how you can prevent this from happening again. There must be some reason they said it, so there’s likely something you can do to improve.

While it’s important to know the opinions others have about you don’t matter, that doesn’t mean you can’t consider them. Your opinion of yourself is what truly matters, so you can choose to stay the same or consider their thoughts and determine whether improvement is necessary or not.

The comments other people make do not have to upset you. Their comments can be teachable moments and help shed light on habits you may not know you have. Take no offense, hear them out, and do what you feel is right. Keep improving yourself.
