In our hectic lives, a lot is out of our control. With Stoicism in mind, we know we should focus on what is in our control. Really all we have is our mind and the mind determines how we perceive all these uncontrollable events.
How do you give your mind the best chance of seeing things clearly and Stoically? Improve your habits and pursue those that strengthen your mind and body.
For me, eating well, drinking water, limited caffeine, 8ish hours of sleep, pursuing passions, and consistent exercise lead to a clear mind. I have plenty of energy and my outlook on the world is much better when I follow these habits routinely. It’s when one or more is thrown off that my whole mood changes.
It’s no surprise that making healthy choices leads to beneficial outcomes. The things you fuel your body with create the life you live. If you prioritize your health, both mental and physical, life will be drastically different.
When you can think clearly, a lot of the things you feared or resented don’t cut as deeply. When your body is energized, you feel unstoppable. Everything changes when you focus on what’s best for your wellbeing.
If you feel like your life is a battle and nothing goes your way, pull your focus back to your habits. Your mind is the only resource you have control over, so do everything you can to improve it. Prioritize your health and do everything in your power to consistently make the choices that lead to clarity.
