Hustle culture needs to relax and you gotta stop letting those “hustlers” get in your head.
I despise hustle culture – work 12 hours a day, make money in your sleep, start 7 side hustles, buy fancy shit to prove you’re successful, etc. If you think differently, if you enjoy “the grind”, all power to ya. Me? I think it instills the wrong mentality into young, confused adults.
My social feeds have been filled with side hustle ideas, investment gurus, traders, and “entrepreneurs” for quite some time now and it’s starting to bother me. It’s like every time I open an app there’s someone new telling me I’m being lazy and wasting my time when I should be starting *insert side hustle here*
“Here’s the easiest way to make 10k a month”, “If you’re not selling on Amazon, you’re missing out”, “This is the easiest side hustle you can start today to make passive income.” Yo, leave me alone! I don’t want to do any of these things and to be honest, I feel like most of these people don’t want to be doing them either. They only do it because it makes them money.
Why can’t we promote doing the activities we actually enjoy? Why can’t we encourage small artists and musicians to share their creations and be happy with 5 likes and comments? What’s so wrong with making a little extra cash doing something you love while also working a full time job? Why do I even have to make extra money instead of just enjoying what I’m doing?
Sure it’s cool to make extra money and not worry so much about bills, but the methods “Hustle Culture” promotes are too much. The activities are based solely on making money and doing so as quickly as possible.
I’m a firm believer in using as much time as you can doing things you care about. Whether you’re making money from it or not, the goal is to love what you do. I’m sure some “Hustlers” genuinely do enjoy the grind, but that doesn’t mean you’re missing out if you don’t do what they do.
Find the activities you love doing most and do them to the capacity you want to. The intention isn’t to make money, it’s to make your life worth living.
