It doesn’t take much to support your creative friend. I’ve realized this since starting ETT and have since made it a goal to support creative people however I can.
You don’t have to do anything crazy like listen to their songs on repeat, buy all their albums, purchase every painting or drawing they put out, or become their personal sales representative everywhere you go.
It just takes a little bit of effort to show your support. Something as simple as liking their post when you see it shows them you want them to keep being creative and it helps their post get in front of more people. Without hesitation, I’ve started liking, saving, and copying the link of the creative people on my feed. I want to show them I support their efforts and want to see them succeed.
I try my best to buy some of their merch too. If a band is trying to go on tour and they’re raising funds through merch sales, I’ll buy it.
When I want music in the background, I choose smaller artists first before going to someone who has already found success.
This is why my podcast is focusing on small artists and musicians now. I want to encourage these talented people to keep going, to share their story, and put them in front of as many people as I can. I want them to succeed because they’re amazing people and are trying to do something they love.
So when you see a post by a small account you follow, don’t think your like/save/share won’t make a difference. Don’t think that buying their t-shirt or bracelets won’t help them, and don’t think sending them a DM to show your support doesn’t do anything.
Any and every little thing has an impact. You can boost their mood, give them the encouragement they need, and help them take the next step. All you have to do is tap a couple buttons.
