That Doesn’t Make Sense

“It doesn’t make any sense to me!’ Has this statement ever crossed your mind in response to someone making a decision you didn’t agree with?

A lot of the time, people make choices that you wouldn’t make. Things happen in this world that seem impossible or opposite of how they should happen. It’s hard not to think “That doesn’t make any sense!”

Like when a person who is sick chooses to not take any medications or see a doctor – “That makes no sense to me.”

A business that appears to be outperforming the market in all aspects has a plummeting stock price – “That seems wrong…”

The key here being that these choices and events don’t make sense to YOU. To the person making the choice, it makes sense. That choice was made for some reason.

That stock price is dropping for some reason or likely a lot of reasons the public doesn’t see. The company may look like it’s thriving when in reality it’s crumbling.

When something doesn’t make sense to me, I try asking more questions. I’m trying to not jump to conclusions and anger and instead view the bigger picture.

Sure the choices of that person don’t make sense to me, but why would they make sense to that person? What could be happening in their life that would elicit the choices?

What could be happening behind closed doors in that business? Who’s running the place, what’s their track record, what other factors are at play?

If it doesn’t initially make sense, make it make sense. View the event from an outside perspective or from the other person’s perspective. Don’t grow frustrated and leave it at that. Dig deeper and see what you can come up with.
