It starts with a thought. Make sure it ends with that thought.
If you’re trying to accomplish something, you can’t let your ego win. If you set out to do something, consistency is the key. So when you have those days where you want to take a break, don’t.
I want to challenge myself to write every day. The blog you’re reading is day number 5 and it almost didn’t happen. After work, I wanted nothing more than to lie around and look at my phone. My ego hit me with every excuse – “It’s just one day off, who cares.” “You don’t have any ideas anyway.” “I’m tired. I don’t want to write.” and on and on.
But in order to challenge myself and get out of this rut I’ve been in, I have to be different. So I got out of bed and started typing.
You can’t escape your thoughts. As much as we’d all like to, they will always be present. Fortunately, you are not your thoughts. You have the power to challenge your ego and do exactly what it tells you not to do. Your desire to be better has to be strong enough to overcome every objection the mind throws at you.
So when the thoughts roll in, telling you to relax, skip a day, be unhealthy, or whatever else is unique to you, stop the train in its tracks. The thoughts will always peak through, but you decide your next move.
Make sure it’s the move that pushes you forward.
