One of the most annoying things on social media is “We should’ve learned this in school…” posts. Stop making excuses and take control of your own education.
I agree that there are many important topics we would’ve benefitted from learning in school. It would’ve been nice to know about investing, taxes, paying bills, insurance, and many other things earlier than adulthood. But guess what, we didn’t learn it, so move on and do something about it.
My teachers didn’t teach me how to invest – I did. No one told me about high interest savings accounts – I discovered them. I wasn’t taught how to properly use credit and debt to my advantage – until I took it upon myself. We both started in the same position, but one of us did something to escape the ignorance.
Each of us has the ability to learn anything we desire. If you feel you were “cheated” or not adequately educated in certain topics, pick up a book. You are just as capable of studying something as the person who did. With all the resources available, you have no excuses.
You cannot change the past. You have no say in what you did or didn’t learn, but you have the power to change your present circumstances and knowledge.
We all start at zero. We all have to grow our knowledge and understanding of the world over time, so the best thing you can do is start now.
Here’s a few books to start your journey of “Continued Education”:
Instead of using “We should’ve learned this in school” as an excuse for having gaps in your knowledge, put in the effort to learn it now. It’s never too late to gain knowledge and improve your skillsets.
