Who can you actually listen to? If we’re not supposed to worry about the opinions of others and we shouldn’t pay attention to our ego’s negativity, who does that leave?
When we’re striving to do something new or big, everyone is going to have an opinion and your ego won’t necessarily be on board. A lot of people will try to talk you out of it, some will be supportive. Sometimes your ego will talk shit, sometimes you’ll feel good about what your doing. This makes it hard to know if what you’re doing is smart or right, so how can you determine that?
You can’t choose to only listen to people who support your endeavors or your ego when it matches your desire. Ignoring the opposite of those isn’t beneficial. We need to be able to hear all the sides, all the criticism, all the praise, everything. Not only what we want to hear.
If you choose to tell people what you’re doing, they’re opinions shouldn’t have the power to sway you. I think if there’s anyone or anything you should listen to, it’s your gut. It often seems like when we’re questions our next steps, we ask people for advice or bring it up in conversation to see what they’ll say. However, I think we all know exactly what we’d like to do, but talking about it with others and overthinking it does nothing but make us question things.
In all honesty, it seems like the best thing to do is trust your initial instinct and act on it. You know what you want to do, so you have to do it. Your results alone will tell you whether it was wise or not. There’s no reason to see what others think because they’re in a completely different mindset than you and haven’t considered doing the same thing themselves.
If your gut is hesitant and you’re telling people about what you’re thinking about, you’re really just hoping they’ll confirm your hesitancy. If you’re excited to start and you tell people about it, you’re just hoping they’ll support you. You know what feels right and what doesn’t, so trust yourself. Their opinions and your ego have no idea what’s right for you because they aren’t you.
You’ve been living this life for years now, you should know what lines up with your life path and what doesn’t. If you want to try something, try it. If you feel it wouldn’t be wise, don’t do it. This isn’t to say let fear win because fear is the ego. There’s a fine line between being excited to start and fear trying to prevent it and you have to know the difference.
Trust the feelings you get when taking the next step. No one else’s opinion matters. The best way to learn whether you made the right choice or not is to do the thing and watch it play out. Have faith in your own ability to make decisions for your life.
