It doesn’t matter where you are in life or how hectic the world around you is, you need to find time to focus on yourself.
Even if everything in your life is up in the air – finding a job, a place to live, meeting new friends, balancing finances – you cannot disregard the importance of your own well-being. Although all these externalities seem most important, they’re not. You are and always will be the most important focal point.
What do I mean by “focus on yourself”? To me, this means spending time alone with your thoughts and writing them down to release them from your mind. It means taking time each day to do something you enjoy, something you’re passionate about. Focusing on yourself means pushing your ego aside and considering the choices you make – the good and the bad – then finding a way to be better.
All the excuses you make after a long day of work – “I’m tired”, “I’ll workout tomorrow”, “I’m not motivated to write”, “I just want to relax”… – are just another bad habit you can easily break. How? By implementing consistency into your routine. By finally making the choice to make a change, learn more about yourself, and work towards being the best version of yourself.
When you realize how important you are, how critical a role your thoughts play in your life, and how much power you have in creating the life you want, you won’t hesitate at the opportunity to focus on yourself.
It doesn’t take much to start, it simply takes a desire to be better and a willingness to try. One simple thing every single day is all it takes. One simple thing is the difference between accepting a life you know has flaws and a life of focus, passion, gratitude, and happiness.
This one simple thing can be any number of activities – you determine which fits into your life most effortlessly. This activity just has to be a few moments in which you’re fully focused on yourself, your thoughts, your passions, and your vision for the future. Journaling, painting, playing an instrument, taking a walk, meditating, etc. You have to be alone, letting your own thoughts come and go without judgment.
You are most important. You are the number one focus, no matter what. Learn everything you can about the person you really are by taking just a few moments every single day to focus on yourself. When you can see the person you really are, for all the good and the bad, you can create a vision for who you want to be.
You are important. You are the most important. Give yourself the time you deserve.
