Free Time Is A Burden

Free time is nothing but a burden when it’s all you have and all you will have.

It’s been one full week since my carpal tunnel surgery and I’m already feeling bored, unmotivated, and unproductive. It’s not as easy to make the most of and appreciate free time when I know I have so much of it in front of me.

There is only so much reading I can do, so much TV I can watch, so much looking at my phone, and alone time before I want something different, something more exciting.

My motivation comes from only having a couple hours each day to work on my passions and hobbies. I appreciate relaxation much more when I get one or two days off each week. It’s not the same when every day for a month is the same, task free, day off.

It may seem like a month to yourself, with no obligations would be wonderful. What part of you believes that? Is it the part of you that’s been working a lot and wants a break? Is it the part of you that wants to pursue a passion project?

Maybe it’s not that you need a bunch of time to yourself. Maybe you just need to use your free time to your advantage. Consider how you’re using this time now – is it spent on your phone, watching TV, drinking excessively, or wasting time in some other way?

How can you fully appreciate your free time and use it to your advantage? Use the few hours you have as a motivating factor, use that time to start building a life you love.

Some days it is nice to do nothing, but you can only do nothing for so long before you begin your search for something better.
